Racing Rivals: Enhancing Competitive Gameplay and Engagement
In my role as Lead/Senior Game Designer on Racing Rivals, I was responsible for transforming the core gameplay experience to boost player progression, retention, and overall engagement. My focus was on redesigning key gameplay loops to make competition more rewarding and accessible, while keeping players invested over time.
I led the integration of Fast & Furious content into Racing Rivals, which heightened player excitement and drove significant engagement and monetization growth. Additionally, I managed stakeholder relations, presenting and refining game concepts alongside publishers and external partners like NBC Universal. My work extended to revamping live service pipelines, where I improved tools and methods for efficient content updates, ensuring a seamless, high-quality experience for players.
Racing Rivals was the most realistic game on the market where you can actually take other people’s cars in pink slips races.
On Racing Rivals, I was the Senior/Lead Game Designer. My Duties included:
- Coordinating with the Creative Director to redefine the core game loop for new player progression, engagement, and retention models.
- Engaging in stakeholder management by pitching concepts to publisher and adjusting design needs.
- Spearheading the design of multiple features, content releases, and relaying those designs to our Art, and Development staff.
- Built and tuned new AI Racer behaviors and tendencies to be more human in nature.
- Balancing mechanics, core features, pacing, and game economy based on analytics.
- Creating spreadsheets, tools, and scripts to improve communication and visibility for QA, Design, and Production.
- Establishing and improving the Live Services pipelines, tools, and methodologies that in turn lowered production turnaround and costs by as much as 50%.
